My father's paternal cousins are all deceased as is his only brother, Roger, leaving no other offspring of my generation. One of these cousins, a Douglas Wauchope, was killed during Vietnam while a 1LT in the Marine Corps. Unfortunately I don't know the history of the family prior to my great grandfather, as my father's father died of a heart attack while relatively young and we're still working on laying things out.

Comments:: My grandmother Minnie Ruth Walkup did quit a bit of research on the Walkup family tree. She lived near Marshalltown all of her life. The story I heard from her is that that original name was Walcoup, and it was French Hugenout. They flew France from relgions percicution and every where they went the changed their surname. You also may want to contact the Walkup's in Phoenix. Louis Walkup has done quit a bit of research on the family as well. I haven't heard anything about him in years and he is probably in his 80's or 90's now if he is still around. I have both of his genology books. There is also a Walkup Mountain in West Viginia and there was a family reunion that met yearly there.

In 2002, I started doing more research and I have traced my direct line back to George Walkup (b. 1663, Framingham, MA) and Naomi Stimpson (Stimson). He married Naomi 14-Nov-1688 in Reading, MA. Naomi's parents were James Stimpson and Naomi Leffingwell. I believe I have traced her lineage back to Thomas Leffingwell (b. 1530, Earls Colne, Essex, Eng). Comments:: Hi. It was interesting to read about the different versions of the name BAUCHOPE. as I have came across a photo album of what I believe are some of the family from victorian times . The inscription reads " Presented to Elizabeth Baulchope from John Bauchope 1st. january 1888.
I have listed it for sale on E-bay until 13th march 05. All of the pictures have been taken in studios around Scotland such as Glasgow, Stirling, Alloa, Greenock, Forfar etc.It was good to find out a little bit about the hitory of the name as I,m sure the book was once a much loved present. I have tintypes of their son Joseph Walker Walkup and his wife Jane Armstrong, as well as copies of Joseph Walker Walkup's diary when he was a young man. Comments:: This is a very interesting site. My Father, Roy Clayton Wauchope, born December 7, 1903, died in 1996 in Elgin, Illinois. His Father, Harvey Wauchope, lived in Grand Ridge, Illinois. Owned farms in Grays Lake, Illinois and Burlington, Iowa. He died in Burlington, Iowa when my father, the eldest child, was 16. I was told he was buried in Yorkville, Illinois. My Father's siblings were Clyde, Irene Wauchope Strahl, and Robert. Clyde was killed in an accident mid-life. Irene died of cancer. Comments:: I am trying to learn more about Samuel Walkup who fought in the peninsula campaign of the Civil War in 1862 with the north carolina troops (Union County I believe). this is mentioned by Stephen Sears in his book-on-tape that I am listening to now.Sears' book is entitled To The Gates of Richmond: The Peninsula Campaign.There were at least 2 Samuel Walkups at that time, Samue Hoey W. and Samuel Harper W. I believe Samue Hoey W. later became a brigadier general(he was a colonel at the time of the Peninsula campaign.

We have the same story, we can't trace back before our great grandfather. John Warcop was his name, and it's possible he left the southern US and headed north, or vice-versa.

His new home had caught fire and burned to the ground. The children are buried in a common grave in the cemetery at Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church. I told you last month that my family of Moore's are the ones who intermarried with your during the late 1600 and 17 & 1800s. You ancestor Gladys Wauchope's book on the Irish Wauchops also mentioned Pedigrees of which there was one on the Moores. As it is not on your website, do you have that particular information and is there any way I can see it?
I am also trying to make a connection prior to William Moore's marriage to "Miss Wauhop" in 1690 (1670?) as he is our earliest known relative that we can track.
